“Take A Chance” was my first album of original songs, although two songs (David and Waltz of Fools) were co-written with my old pal Jon Small*. The album also features my brother Aidan who has played on many of my albums.

The album was recorded in the quaint Norfolk village of Crimplesham. the studio was owned and run by Les Chappell and Lena Lovich (yes, that Les and Lena).

Les and Lena were wonderful to work with and so hospitable. I really will never forget those days and nights.

The album was also partially recorded in Birmingham by Rob Derbyshire at his studio.

I never formally released the album, and I think I made about 200 (still have some left actually). I made the album in the midst of my Irish music job, which took over most of my musical life back then. I rarely performed these songs, in fact, some have been hardly performed, and one or two never.

I have enjoyed going back over the songs, cringing at times, because of naive lyrics and some predictable chord changes. I am very grateful to all of my friends who played on the album, and who were also members of the working band.
